Under Schultheiss and Associates main Web page it is highlighted "Professionalism" "Responsiveness" "Quality", these unfortunately are something that Mr. Hargleroad lacks.
Again this is my personal experience with Schultheiss and Associates, and a CPA representing the firm. Other individuals may have different experiences with this group, however as a consumer we should make informed decisions about those who handle financial situations for us, and as a consumer I am voicing my experiences.
As a small business owner I entrusted Mr. Hargleroad with processing the business taxes and our personal income taxes. The tax information was personally handed to Mr. Hargleroad at the end of April 2015, per his request as he was to busy to handle them anytime before then. That was the last Mr. Hargleroad had communicated anything with me and our my spouse.
I have worked with both Paul and Joanne Schultheis for more than 7 years and my experience has been nothing but excellent in every way. What I like about Paul is that he stays current not only with tax law, etc he stays very current with technology solutions and how that can help a business. Friendly, professional and timely, you cannot go wrong working with these great people!
I have removed my file from Schultheiss and Associates, and it was not until Mr. Hargleroad was informed that I would be doing this that he wanted to "talk" and help me out.
It is now January 4, 2017 and Mr. Hargleroad did not file anything for 2015 regarding my taxes either business or personal. On December 12, 2016 I called to speak to Mr. Hargleroad regarding the status of the taxes and he was in a seminar. I left him a voice message. Mr. Hargleroad then retuned my call stating that he was waiting for further information from me. What? 8 months later you are stating that you did not have all the information you needed? If this was allegedly needed why did it take 8 months for you to communicate this? There was no communication from Mr. Hargleroad for any additional information needed. Mr. Hargleroad stated in a later phone call that he has not filed any taxes relating to my business or personal at all, but that he "has the numbers". I would like to add that Mr. Hargleroad only called me after I stated I was going to file a formal complaint against Schultheiss and Associates and Mr. Hargleroad with the Better Business Bureau, and Attorney General. Mr. Hargleroad previously billed me $400.00 for preparation of 2015 taxes which was paid. After our phone call Mr. Hargleroad then billed me another $625.00 for preparation of 2015 taxes, when he has done nothing. Again Mr. Hargleroad did not call me at all for 8 months, did not send one email, or letter stating that anything was wrong or additional information was needed. When I spoke to Mr. Hargleroad on the phone he tried to blame the secretary's at Schultheiss and Associates for not doing their job properly. The Secretary's have been more help then he is/was.
What is frustrating is that because of Mr. H's lack of professionalism I/we can now be faced with extra costs associated with his failure to communicate and do his job properly.
I would suggest researching other options if you are in need of an Accountant to handle your taxes.

As a fellow CPA I have worked with Paul and his company several times over the last 15 years. I have always found them to be knowledgeable, forward thinking and client oriented. Paul and Joanne are two of the nicest and kindest people I know. They are always going that extra mile for clients, friends and strangers.
